The shortlist for Australia's Miles Franklin Award has been announced, and although I do not imagine too many other American readers are leaping up and down with anticipation, here are the finalists:
- All That I Am by Anna Funder
- Past The Shallows by Favel Parrett
- Blood by Tony Birch
- Foal's Bread by Gillian Mears
- Cold Light by Frank Moorhouse
If it saves another US reader some time in searching for these books, I can report that Anna Funder's novel is available for sale in the USA, and an ebook of Favel Parrett's book can be ordered for the Kindle. You can find used copies of Foal's Bread by Gillian Mears. I come up empty for the other two books, and the Book Depository in the UK does not have these novels in stock either.
Although reading through this shortlist was not in my plans, at least not any time soon, I did order All That I Am and hope to get it read before the award announcement on June 30th. Congratulations to the shortlisted writers. Nice to see the recognition for Australian women writers this year.
Nice one Fay, thanks on behalf of Aussie readers and writers ... and it's a nicely diverse list this year isn't it.
I'm pleased that you have access to used copies of Foal's bread over there already. That means it's getting some exposure.

Sue, nice to see you here. One book from the shortlist should be manageable in the next few weeks. Several of these novels sound good; it is just a matter of budgeting the time.
