Recently I finished Patrick White's Voss, clearly one of the great novels in English of the 20th Century, and it will require some time and attention to put together a proper blog post. Meanwhile, a chunky history arrived through inter-library loan, and we were snowed in for a few days, delaying the library pick-up. Now less than two weeks remain for a read of Gordon S. Wood's Empire of Liberty: A History of the Early Republic, 1789-1815. At over 700 pages, this volume in The Oxford History of the United States will take most of my reading time for now, and history reads more slowly for me than does fiction.
On audio, I am still listening to Elizabeth Gaskell's North and South. A book on herb gardening is the current Kindle selection, and Edith Pearlman's short stories in Binocular Vision have been good for a nice, slow read over a period of several weeks.
Books, books, books, but no blogging for now. I am determined to finish the American history book by the end of the month. Just wanted to check in here. Returning soon.
I bought this book a few weeks ago thinking I'd read it when I finished the Meacham bio of Jefferson. But I never got to Jefferson and now this book is leaning against another pile of books and singing to me. I like the cover.

Mary, I plan to read more history this year. Effect of these chunksters on the blogging remains to be seen.
